3 days in the classroom
This Regulated Qualification is ideal for those already working or preparing to work within industry wishing to become a First Aider in the workplace for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (NI) 1982.
The recommended course duration is 3 days and topics covered include: the roles and responsibilities of the First Aider; assessing an incident, recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness, assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness, chest injuries, spinal injuries and anaphylaxis. The qualification is assessed via on-going oral and/or written questioning and practical demonstration.
All successful students will be issued with a First Aid at Work Certificate, along with a wallet-sized plastic card detailing their achievement. If no more than one calendar month over this 3 year period, you may qualify to take the course again in two days rather than three. We call this our “Re-qualification” course. You must give a copy of our original certificate to your instructor to qualify.
The HSE strongly recommend that all first aiders complete an annual first aid refresher courses and our online course meets this requirement. All our first aid courses fully meet the UK and European Resuscitation Council Guidelines 2015 as per the HSE requirements.

The course Instructor is responsible for determining whether delegates pass or fail based on practical and oral assessment throughout the course, i.e. by observation and oral questioning, as well as the completion of a multiple-choice question paper at the end of the course. The Instructor will only award a pass if they believe that delegates have displayed the requisite understanding and competencies at the end of each session throughout the course and successfully completed the question paper.
There are no formal entry requirements. However, learners should be able to work at level 2 or above. They must be physically capable of completing the practical activities involved.
This qualification lasts for 3 years. To renew their qualification after 3 years, delegates will need to retake the full course. However, it is recommended that, during the 3 year period, delegates attend annual refresher courses.
